Confirmation

Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) is a ministry of the whole congregation. It prepares each child of God to continue in the covenant God made with her/him in Holy Baptism, to grow in his/her relationship with God, and to be an active participant in the Christian community and its mission.

Confirmation at St. Philip's is a 3 year program beginning in 7th grade with Confirmation in the Fall of your 10th grade year.

7th & 8th Grade Confirmation: Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 p.m.

7:00 p.m.: Meet in the Youth Room for The Opening, which will include music, announcements, and an introduction to the lesson which will be studied that evening.

7:30 p.m.: All 7th and 8th graders will go to a Large Group Presentation. A snack will be served following the Large Group.

7:50 p.m.: All 7th and 8th graders will go to Small Groups of 6 students and 1 or 2 Guides (Small Group Leaders).

The Opening: This is a time to build a sense of community for students in grades 7 and 8 to celebrate faith through music and singing, and to be introduced to the lesson for the evening.

Large Group: Students will then divide according to their grade level. This will be a time for one of the pastors to present the lesson for the evening. This is also an opportunity to build a relationship between pastor and students.

Small Group: This is a time to build relationships with other students and adults, to process and discuss the lesson, to rehearse skits and design art projects, and to do service projects.

The 9th grade year is a Mentor program meeting one Sunday a month with student and Mentor. The Mentor program has been designed to enrich the faith development experience by helping the student to:

  • Grow in their faith along with their mentors
  • Discover a sense of ownership of the life and mission of St. Philip's
  • Discover opportunities for involvement within the congregation
  • Develop a supportive relationship with an adult
  • Provide opportunities for interaction with others
  • Build life-long relationships
